I love good food. I love to eat. Eating good, healthy, nutritious food is one of life’s greatest pleasures. Planning, and preparing that food is another. I love to cook. This doesn’t mean I like to spend hours in the kitchen, slaving away over complicated recipes that will be devoured in minutes. No, I am a great believer in keeping it simple and quick. I like my time in the kitchen to be enjoyable.
I like the idea behind the “slow food” movement, that philosophy that says we should all be spending time carefully considering our meals, and then equally carefully considering eating the food. I don’t mind rushing through the cooking, but I will not rush my eating. To eat slowly, in an unhurried and stress-free manner, is so much healthier for us.
This blog will be a journal of my recipes and cooking forays over the course of a year. Hopefully most of the recipes will be accompanied by photos.
So, what sort of foods and inspirations will you find here?
Well, for starters, I’m a vegetarian, so all the recipes will be vegetarian. However, I will occasionally make suggestions for the meat eaters. Often, all it takes is a handful of cooked chicken or sliced roast beef to keep the meat-eaters in the family happy.
I’m Australian and I live in Alice Springs, in the Northern Territory. A loooong way from any other large towns. My main source for fresh food is the supermarket, occasionally supplemented by the few market gardeners who sell at the Sunday Market, or the organic suppliers who sell through Afghan Traders store.
